Some of you are aware that my dad passed away last October (2006) from cancer. The good people of a local Hospice organization, Hospice in the Pines took care of dad in his final days and made a profound impact on his life and death and the rest of our family as well. As a way of giving back to this wonderful charity, I stepped-up and decided coordinate an open car and truck show with all the proceeds going to Hospice in the Pines.
With that, the Joe P. Collins Memorial Car and Truck Show was born.
I've created classes that I feel will include everyone. I have arranged for nice awards, neat door prizes, cool goodie bags and T-shirts for the first 75 entries. The show site is within close walking distance of Taco Bell, Outback Steakhouse, Starbucks Coffee, Wendy's, McDonalds, UFO Pizza Company and a hotel (Texas Inn & Suites) and ATM.

I live here in the small town of Lufkin, Texas (population about 41,000). But I want to extend an big invitation to all my friends in this car hobby to come and support my first shot at a car show and this great charity in honor of my old Pop. My dad was a good old guy that served during the Korean conflict in the US Navy. He was a scientist but his passion and hobby was cars too! Over the years he own several new 1978 and 1979 Pontiac Trans-Ams, a new 1977 Corvette and a 2003 Ford Lightning. Dad also restored a beautiful 1966 Mustang GT convertible in 1989 and was intrumental in helping me with the difficult stuff on the resto job of my 1993 Texas DPS Mustang in 2002.
I hope this is an event that some of you will consider. I am happy to recommend a good hotel and great places to eat while you are in town.

We are off to a great start. We have several nice sponsors for this event. I am surprised at the folks that want to help but I am certain that we are doing the right thing for the right cause!

Plans for this event have come along really well so far. I've raised over $3000 to make this car & truck show a success. The T-shirts are being designed, the trophies are being built and the best goodie bags ever are being stuffed for this show!

Roman - I wish I could make it to your show, but will be out State that day. Good luck and maybe I will not have a conflict next year.

Thanks, Craig. I appreciate that. I hope I haven't ran the show into the ground too much. I am just very excited about it and hope I can attract a lot of participants.

Thanks, Guys. I appreciate the support. It realy means a lot. I just don't want to wear my welcome out on this site.

In many cases, the trophies are supposed to be a surprise to the winners at a car show. I have decided to share a glimpse of what the 1st place (or Class Champion) trophies at my show will look like. This thread shows my 12 yr old step-daughter, Alaira holding the "Coordinator's Choice Award". This is the trophy I am personally giving someone that has the most impressive vehicle at the show. I promise, I will be fair about it.

On the right is my 8 yr old step-daughter, Avery. She is holding the 1st place/Class Champion trophy. I have twenty of these Class Champions to give away to winners in twenty classes.
