Is it the gauges or the gauge lights? If it is the gauges there is a part under the dash that mounts on the back of the gauge cluster called a constant voltage regulator. They go bad all the time and can cause two different probs. One is that the gauges all read very high or they quit. It will afect the fuel, temp, oil press and gas gauges. It could be the prob. If it is the lights it is not the ign switch.

The way those gauges work is they all have 5 volts from the CVR on each gauge then the ground side of the gauges go to indivigiual sensors that tell the gauge what to do. If they all quit at the same time it is going to be the power to them not the ground side. so it is either the power to the cvr or a bad conection between it and  all the gauges. The only common ground in the system is on the case of the CVR and if you loose that the gauges will peg out high. If you can get to it and measure the power while they are not working you should be able to run it down. Keep in mind it is not unusual to get a cvr brand new that does not work. I tore mine apart and installed a solid state 5 volt regulator inside it I got so frustrated trying to get a good one.
