Hello everyone, my name is Tracy Yates and I have a 1965 Mustang hardtop. I've had the car for about 10 years now and I have just now started to work on it. I have to admit it starting to be a whole lot of fun. I hope to meet some people that will give me some ideas on my car.

Tracy, welcome to the MOET Forums.
What are your plans for the '65 Coupe? Are you located in the Tyler area?

I plan to restore it myself. I live in Bullard Texas. I've start already with the motor it is being machined right now. I've removed the bumpers to have the originals plated. Is that a good idea or would you buy new aftermarket bumpers.

Cool, most all of us do our own restorations too.
The aftermarket bumpers are way better than they used to be 10 years ago or so. But, if you have a good straight set of originals, my opinion is getting them re-chromed is the best way to go.
Who's doing your machine work for you? All of us use Charley Ray of Ray's Engine Service here in Tyler. He does fabulous work.

Charley Ray is doing the motor work. Let me ask you this. Originally my 289 came from the factory with a 2 barrel carb, but the car has the intake for a 4 barrel and a holley 4 barrel made for the ford company. Should I look for the 2 barrel intake and carb or just stick the 4 barrel on it. The 4 barrel I have has electric choke, but the car has a nob for choke in the dash. I am also confused about the color of the car. It came from the factory Honey Gold, but the car is painted car right now. And what color do I paint the engine when Charleys finished.

That's great that Charley is doing the machine work for you. It will be right when he is done.
You can run either the 2V or 4V carb, it's just a matter of what you are wanting to do. Your car is a 'C' Code and came with an Autolite 2100 2V carb. If it had been an 'A' Code, it would have come with an Autolite 2400 4V with a 1.08 venturi that equates to 450CFM. Is the manual choke under the dash a factory unit or is it an aftermarket unit added previously?
If it were me, I'd stay with the 4V carb and intake for better performance. If you are doing a concours restoration and want to stay with the 2V carb, you can do that too. As far as the Holley 4V goes, if you're going to run it, just make sure that it is not over 600CFM. Anything over that will be too much carb unless you are building a high performance motor.
I'm not sure I understand you question about the body color. As far as the engine color goes, the factory painted the engine black with gold valve covers in '65. I've seen a lot of engines in '65s mis-painted Ford Corporate Blue. But, paint it whatever suites your taste.

Don't worry about deleting me. I'll just keep coming back. I would like to see some others 65 mustang and see what they are doing.

There are plenty of 64.5-66's in MOET and A LOT of opinions.
We meet at Traditions Restaurant on Broadway on the 1st Tuesday of the month for our monthly meeting. We eat at 6:30 PM and the meeting starts around 7:00 PM.
We also meet every Saturday morning at The Egg and I restaurant on Broadway for breakfast at 6:30 AM. After breakfast, we usually convene at one of the guys shop to see what's new or to lend a helping hand. Drop by one MOET meeting or on Saturday morning, we'd love to meet you.

Tracy - enjoyed meeting you at the Traditions cruise on Sunday. I will be happy to help you on your restoration any way I can. I have restored numerous 65-66 Mustangs and am currently working on a '67.
Rechromed bumpers are always better than reproductions. They fit!
